History of Vidyasadan School, Marianad
Vidyasadan Central School, Marianad, a co-educational institution managed by the Vidyasadan Educational and Charitable Trust, stands today as a shining centre of learning and value-based education. Its growth is the fruit of visionary leadership and dedicated service by several priests, trustees, and well-wishers who nurtured its mission through the years.
In 1991, during the tenure of Rev. Fr. Siriac Panjikaran, a tuition centre for students of Classes VIII to X, named Vidyabhodini, was begun under the auspices of FIDES (Night Study Programme).
This noble endeavour aimed at supporting academically weaker students and guiding them toward excellence. The humble beginnings of Vidyasadan date back to 1992, when Rev. Fr. Vincent K J started Vidyasadan Lower Primary School, sowing the seeds of quality education in Marianad. His farsighted initiative laid a strong educational foundation for the parish community and inspired many families to dream of a brighter future for their children. The institution experienced remarkable growth and wider acceptance during the dynamic leadership of Rev. Fr. Joseph Bastin (1993–1994).
A significant milestone was achieved when the school was upgraded to the Upper Primary level (Classes V–VII) during the period of Rev. Fr. Pangretious (1998–2001). This development strengthened the academic structure of the institution and enabled more students to continue their formative education within the parish itself. He carried out the construction of buildings necessary for the growth of the institution.
The dream of establishing a Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) school at Marianad was envisioned by Rev. Fr. Syrus Kalathil, the then parish priest, during the years 2007–2012. With noble ideals and a clear commitment to holistic education, he initiated the necessary steps to transform this vision into reality. Mrs. Anitha Raj who became the Principal of the school in 2011, made significant contributions that greatly supported the growth of the school. This long-cherished dream was finally fulfilled in 2013, during the tenure of Rev. Fr. Thadayoose, when the institution received CBSE affiliation, marking a new era in the educational history of Marianad. Since then, Vidyasadan Central School has been striving to impart quality education rooted in moral values, discipline, and social responsibility.
Continuing its steady journey of growth, the institution reached another remarkable milestone in 2025, when during the tenure of Rev. Fr. Melkon, the school received permission to start the Higher Secondary Section (Classes XI & XII). This achievement opened wider academic horizons for the students of Marianad and strengthened the institution’s commitment to holistic and progressive education.
Trust’s leadership
The journey has also been deeply supported and inspired by the Trust’s leadership. His Grace Most Rev. Dr. Soosa Pakiam, the founder and Managing Trustee of the Vidyasadan Educational and Charitable Trust, has been a constant source of inspiration in initiating and nurturing the school. At present, His Grace Most Rev. Dr. Thomas J. Netto serves as the Managing Trustee, continuing to guide the institution with visionary leadership and pastoral concern.
Today, enriched by its noble legacy and guided by committed leadership, Vidyasadan Central School, Marianad, continues to grow as a vibrant centre of academic excellence and character formation, confidently moving towards a future filled with greater achievements and service to society. It has grown through the hands of time and today has become a tree of knowledge that spreads light to many lives. This journey is not merely the history of an institution, but a beautiful saga that sings the glory of education.
